GET TO KNOW JAMES

You know, if you’d asked me years ago whether I’d ever write a book, I probably would’ve laughed and said no way. But life has a funny way of steering you where you’re meant to go.

I was adopted at seven, and that’s when my last name changed to Lewis. My adoptive mom loved the rock ’n’ roll legend Jerry Lee Lewis, so she thought it’d be fun to give me that name too. It stuck, so much so that no one even knew my real name was James. Every school record, every doctor’s note, it was “Jerry.” When I applied for college, I found out you can’t exactly sign up with a nickname. So, I went to court and legally changed. Yes, my name is Jerry Lee Lewis, but I write under the pen name, which was also my birth name, James Lee Miller.

I’m a tall guy, a proud veteran, and an adoptee who’s seen a lot of the world. After college, I joined the Air Force, which gave me the chance to travel far beyond my own backyard. I’ve stood in quiet corners of foreign cities, breathed in mountain air halfway across the globe, and soaked in more sunsets than I can count.

These days, I’m settled in Texas but still travel. As a new author, I write to connect with other adoptees, fellow veterans living with PTSD, and, yes, other tall humans who know the unique challenges of living in a world built for average humans. My hope is that my stories will bring a mix of hope, healing, and laughter and maybe remind someone out there that even the hardest journeys can lead to something beautiful.
